Almost every car enthusiast loves the Porsche 911. It meets just about everyone’s sports car needs and fantasies. I’m staring at a painting of its classic silhouette on my wall as my fingers type this. The trouble with the Porsche 911 is that it’s expensive. New 911s are jaw-droppingly expensive; the current base Carrera starts at $127,700. Used 911s stay expensive. The 911 has little if any traditional depreciation curve. And super-old 911s are even more valued by collectors because they are air-cooled. Most of us will never be able to afford anything beyond a ratty, base model 996.
