Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC) has applied for 902 acres of state trust land, located just south of its existing campus. The Phoenix Business Journal reports the request kicks off an auction that will occur on January 7 of next year. The starting bid is $197.25 million.
The $165 billion plant being built by TSMC has sparked a fierce battle for property around the facility. The 902-acre site going up for auction is just part of the NorthPark master-planned community, which could span nearly 7,000 acres and include commercial, employment, and residential uses.
To the north, west and east of TSMC’s campus, another mixed-use master planned community, Halo Vista, is in the works. It’s planned to include up to 30 million square feet of mixed-use space with retail, office, hospitality, research, industrial and health care users, along with up to 9,000 residential units at full buildout.
TSMC acquired the land for its current campus – over 1,128 acres – for $89 million during a state trust land auction in 2020.
