President Trump’s overall job approval reached a new second-term low in the latest Economist/YouGov survey.
The poll, conducted this past weekend, shows Trump 19 points underwater, with 39 percent of Americans approving of his handling of the presidency, and 58 percent disapproving.
The negative 19 net approval is the lowest of his second term, even though he’s seen his approval rating dip to 39 percent in the past.
Last week, the president’s net approval was negative 17, with 39 percent approving and 56 percent disapproving. The week prior, he was 15 points underwater — at 40 percent approval and 55 percent disapproval. And at the start of the month, he was 17 points underwater — back to 39 percent approval and 56 percent disapproval.
YouGov pollsters noted the president’s net negative-19 approval is also lower than all but one poll during his first term.
Trump’s approval is down across all age groups, but young adults have seen the most dramatic dropoff in approval since the start of the president’s second term.
Among 18- to 29-year-olds, in the latest survey, Trump is nearly 55 points underwater — with only 20 percent approving of the way Trump handles his job and 75 percent disapproving.
That represents a stark reversal from February, when Trump enjoyed a positive net approval among young adults of over 8 points — with 50 percent approving and 42 percent disapproving.
In the latest survey, crime is the president’s strongest issue, with a net negative 1-point approval rating. Immigration follows with net negative 10-point approval, and foreign policy gets a net negative 13-point approval.
On other issues, Trump underperforms his overall net negative 19-point approval: He gets net negative 22-point approval on jobs and the economy and a net negative 31-point approval on inflation/prices.
The survey was conducted Oct. 24-27 and included 1,623 adults. The margin of error is 3.4 percentage points.
