President Trump celebrated the deal Brown University struck with the administration to restore funding Thursday, another notch under the president’s belt in his war with higher education.
“Congratulations to Brown University on the settlement made with the United States Government. There will be no more Anti-Semitism, or Anti-Christian, or Anti-Anything Else!” Trump posted on Truth Social.
“Woke is officially DEAD at Brown. Thank you for your attention to this matter!” he added.
Brown University announced Wednesday a deal with the administration to end three federal investigations into the institution’s compliance with discrimination laws, restore $500 million in federal funding and allow the university, based in Providence, R.I., to apply for new grants.
In exchange, Brown will pay $50 million to workplace development organizations in Rhode Island, separate men and women’s sports facilities on the basis of sex, and its health system will not prescribe puberty blockers or conduct gender reassignment surgeries on minors.
Along with that, Brown will ban programs that contain “unlawful efforts to achieve race-based outcomes,” have “merit-based admissions policies” and provide information and data to the government showing it is complying with the agreement.
“By voluntarily entering this agreement, we meet those dual obligations. We stand solidly behind commitments we repeatedly have affirmed to protect all members of our community from harassment and discrimination, and we protect the ability of our faculty and students to study and learn academic subjects of their choosing, free from censorship,” Brown President Christina Paxson wrote in a letter to the community.
The agreement happened shortly after Columbia struck a deal with the administration that included a more than $200 million fine. Harvard and the Trump administration are also in talks to end its funding pause.
