Despite having been announced in the middle of 2025, the Trump Mobile T1 smartphone has yet to be delivered to customers. This begs the question of, where is it? That remains to be seen, but Dominic Preston over at The Verge seems to have come the closest to finding out, as an executive from Trump Mobile finally responded to his email.
Trump Mobile responded email about T1 smartphone, then ghosted the reporter
According to Preston’s report, he spent months sending out emails to various Trump Mobile accounts and press addresses, without any success. However, after a little digging, he came across the contact details of Trump Mobile executive Don Hendrickson, who responded to the email Preston sent to him.
When asked about the T1 smartphone, Hendrickson replied by saying, “It’s a pleasure to meet you via this email, and yes, I would like to talk to you about Trump Mobile and the T1 handset that we are going to be bringing to market. I think it’s about time we let our voice be heard.”
Unfortunately, that was as far as the exchange got. Hendrickson failed to respond to the follow-up email and the subsequent emails that Preston sent. This suggests that Hendrickson is no longer interested in fielding questions. Possibly he received instructions not to speak to journalists, although this is speculation for now.
Is the T1 vaporware at this point?
It’s worrying that no one has responded to queries about the status of the phone. After all, Trump Mobile made such a big deal about its launch, including how it would be made in America. Since then, many have cast doubt on those claims.
For starters, the phone in question resembled a phone made by a Chinese company. Just with Trump Mobile’s branding slapped on it. However, interestingly enough, it was Hendrickson who later clarified in an interview with Wireless Dealer Magazine that the phone would have an “American-proud design.” It basically sounds like the phone would be designed in the US, but manufacturing would take place elsewhere.
It’s also concerning because in order to “buy” the T1, you’d have to put a $100 deposit. We’re not sure how many orders were actually placed. However, there are definitely people out there who have paid that deposit and are still waiting for the device. This has resulted in the lawmakers asking the FTC to investigate the issue over potential consumer protection violations.
