President Trump on Monday blamed the antisemitic attack in Boulder, Colo., a day earlier on former President Biden’s border policies, calling the incident that injured several people an example of the need for secure borders.
A man used a “makeshift flamethrower” and incendiary devices Sunday to attack people demonstrating for the release of hostages held in Gaza by Hamas.
The suspect, Mohamed Soliman, reportedly yelled “free Palestine” during the attack, the FBI said Sunday. Soliman is an Egyptian national who entered the U.S. in 2022 and overstayed his tourist visa, The Colorado Sun reported, citing federal authorities. He had filed for asylum in September 2022, according to a spokesperson for The Department of Homeland Security.
“Yesterday’s horrific attack in Boulder, Colorado, WILL NOT BE TOLERATED in the United States of America. He came in through Biden’s ridiculous Open Border Policy, which has hurt our Country so badly. He must go out under ‘TRUMP’ Policy,” Trump said on Truth Social.
“Acts of Terrorism will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the Law. This is yet another example of why we must keep our Borders SECURE, and deport Illegal, Anti-American Radicals from our Homeland. My heart goes out to the victims of this terrible tragedy, and the Great People of Boulder, Colorado!”
The attack in Boulder took place during a peaceful weekly gathering of individuals, walking together to demonstrate solidarity with hostages still held in Gaza by Hamas and to call for their release.
White House deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller on Sunday night said the suspect is an “illegal alien” who overstayed his visa.
“He was granted a tourist visa by the Biden Administration and then he illegally overstayed that visa. In response, the Biden Administration gave him a work permit. Suicidal migration must be fully reversed,” he wrote on X.
The victims of the attack range in age from 52 to 88, The Associated Press reported, and the incident has led to increased security in other parts of the country, including New York City.
Last week, a man shouted “free, free Palestine” while being detained for the fatal shooting of two Israeli Embassy staffers in Washington, D.C.
The victims, Yaron Lischinsky, 30, and Sarah Milgrim, 26, were attending a reception hosted by the American Jewish Committee at the Capital Jewish Museum when they were shot and killed.
