Managing a large number of notifications at once can be overwhelming. We sometimes end up missing important notifications while clearing the unnecessary ones. To solve this problem, Apple announced a notification summary feature for iOS in its latest WWDC 25 event. Now, Google is reportedly also working on a similar feature for its Android operating system.
Google will soon add Notification Summary to Android
As per Android Authority, Google is testing a new Notification Summary feature in the beta build of Android 16. This feature will essentially summarise all the notifications on your device. However, it’s not going to work exactly like Apple Intelligence. Google seems to have outsmarted the Cupertino tech giant here.
The Android Notification Summary is going to be more focused and will have the necessary limitations. The feature will only summarise the “conversational notifications” instead of everything, unlike Apple. This makes much sense because conversational notifications are usually more important than others. It’s also hard to decipher the key message in a group chat when you are inactive, and this feature is going to solve this issue.
Only conversational messages are going to be summarized
Conversational messages have a separate space in the notification panel, and the new Notification Summary is going to work only with those. Apple’s version of the notification summary was a hot topic of debate for its inaccurate summarization. But since Google is trying to be picky with its implementation, we are expecting it to have better accuracy.
It will, however, come with a warning label that says that summaries generated “may have errors”. This is primarily because of the fact that it uses AI (Artificial Intelligence) to work, and while AI has become very powerful and fast, it is still not perfect.
The feature will only work on longer messages and group conversations. If you find it less useful or simply do not want it, you can disable the Notification Summaries from the Settings. Further, it is likely going to be powered by Gemini Nano, and hence, not every Android device is going to have the feature.
