If your last DIY project involved a borrowed hammer, a lot of “trusting the process,” and a YouTube tutorial you didn’t quite finish – same. Sometimes the idea sounds better in your head, but practice makes perfect and that means being ready when the mood strikes. With TINKR, home projects will feel a little less ugh and a lot more let’s do this. This just-launched tool brand brings soft-touch handles, project-specific kits, and a color palette worthy of a shelfie. TINKR is designed to make you feel like you actually know what you’re doing, even if it’s your first time holding a rachet screwdriver. Bonus: it’s also available at select Target stores nationwide.
The idea came to founder Lainy Hedaya Hoffstein in the middle of a frustrating furniture assembly session in her garage. “For too long, tools have been treated like garage gear – intimidating, unappealing, and built around a narrow idea of who a builder is,” she says. “TINKR is here to change that. We’ve created tools that feel good in your hand, look great in your home, and come with the kind of guidance and content that makes DIY feel approachable, empowering, and even fun.” If that means finally finishing the projects we start without wanting to give up halfway, count us in.
TINKR launches with three core kits: the DIY Essentials Kit ($19.99), the Home Essentials Kit ($29.99), and the Modern Tool Kit ($79.99). From hanging picture frames to installing shelves, they cover all the basics – and then some. Three project kits – the Furniture Assembly Kit, Painting Kit, and Wall Patch Kit (each $24.99) – take the guesswork out of what to buy for common upgrades. Not ready to part with your heirloom toolkit but need a few modern upgrades? You can also grab individual tools, including a 12 oz Hammer ($7.99), 18-ft Tape Measure ($7.99), 6-Bit Ratchet Screwdriver ($10.99), and Utility Knife ($7.99). Everything comes in two modern colorways: Sage and Midnight.
More than just aesthetically-pleasing tools, TINKR is here to empower, rather than overwhelm, beginning DIY-ers as well as seasoned makers. We all start somewhere, and some of us remember what it’s like to stand in the middle of the Home Depot aisle feeling overwhelmed and lost (no? Just us?). With Quick Start Guides and a growing library of how-to videos, TINKR makes home improvement feel more doable, more inclusive, and honestly? A lot more fun.
