By now, most people are familiar with Volkswagen’s growing range of ID electric vehicles. From the compact ID.3 to the ID.7 sedan and ID. Buzz van, the German brand’s lineup covers nearly every mainstream segment. However, there are also ID models that rarely make international headlines. One of these is the ID.UNYX, a China-exclusive series developed by Volkswagen Anhui.
The first UNYX model, the ID.UNYX 06, debuted last year as a sibling to the Cupra Tavascan, featuring a similar coupe-like SUV body. Now, the brand is preparing a second model, the ID.UNYX 07, set to launch in 2026. The new SUV will be the first Volkswagen built on a fresh electric architecture designed entirely for China.

The ID.UNYX 07 in Detail
According to regulatory filings discovered by CarNewsChina, the ID.UNYX 07 will be larger than the 06, with dimensions measuring 191 inches long, 73 inches wide, and 61.6 inches tall, riding on a 111-inch wheelbase. Size-wise, the coupe SUV sits squarely in the mid-size SUV class. Its exterior design continues the sharp, modern styling of the ID.UNYX family, featuring slim headlights, a prominent lower bumper, and illuminated Volkswagen logos at both ends.
The SUV will offer 19- or 20-inch wheels, a sectional panoramic sunroof, and a minimalist cabin that includes a flat-topped steering wheel and a large central touchscreen. Power comes from a single rear-mounted electric motor rated at 228 horsepower, paired with CATL’s lithium iron phosphate batteries.
Built under Volkswagen Anhui – a joint venture in which VW holds a majority stake – the ID.UNYX 07 will lead a wave of three new models from the company in 2026, combining sedans and SUVs under the “In China, for China” strategy.

Why You Won’t See It in the West
Volkswagen recently announced that its future EVs will move away from the numeric “ID” format and instead use proper names. A primary example is the ID.2all, which will hit production as the ID.Polo, along with the upcoming ID.Tiguan – a simplified branding for a broader audience. The UNYX nomenclature aligns with this strategy, though the numericals at the end do deviate a bit.
As attractive as the ID.UNYX 07 may be, but it is unlikely to reach Europe or North America. It remains a China-only product – one that reflects Volkswagen’s regional flexibility and the brand’s different naming strategies across markets. For Western buyers, the new wave of renamed ID models will take the spotlight, while the Unyx quietly continues Volkswagen’s electric story in another corner of the world.
