The internet is full of half-witted, AI-generated car renderings, but occasionally, one of them does it right. Instagram user Kelsonik recently posted a reimagining of the Lexus IS, turning it into a sleek wagon that would almost certainly be a hit with enthusiasts.
Some expected Lexus to discontinue the IS, but the automaker updated the car for 2026, extending its lifespan by at least a few more years. Lexus ditched the V8-powered IS 500 for the model year, making daydreaming about a wagon even more fun.

The IS wagon rendering likely didn’t take a ton of work, as the car’s front-end look remains untouched. Kelsonik’s changes come in the rear of the vehicle, where the C-Pillar, trunk, and rear fascia were reshaped to create the wagon body style. The renderings keep the IS’ unique taillight shape and lightbar connecting the two rear light units.

Of course, this is all fantasy. Given sedans’ downward sales trajectory in the U.S., Lexus is extremely unlikely to expend the resources necessary to create a standalone wagon model within the IS lineup. That said, some of the brand’s competitors remain committed to long-roof cars here, including BMW, which recently introduced the M5 wagon, and Mercedes-Benz, which will soon release the AMG E 53 wagon.
Lexus sold the IS 300 as a wagon here in the early 2000s, which featured the iconic 2JZ-GE straight-six engine. It was only sold for a few years, which, combined with its highly tunable powertrain, has made it one of the most desirable IS variants to date.
While it’s a bummer that we’ll probably never see another IS wagon, the cars we do get have solid specs. The IS 350 comes with a 3.5-liter V6, making 311 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque. Unfortunately, that’s the only powertrain available for 2026, and both of the available trims come in F Sport flavor, Lexus’ aggressive appearance package.
