If there’s one drink that belongs to New York City, it’s the Manhattan. Equal parts ritual and history, the cocktail has long been synonymous with the city’s nightlife, immigrant distilling traditions, and enduring relationship with craft. With Time Distilled, designer Maximilian Eicke of Max ID NY captures that legacy in glass, collaborating with Great Jones Distilling Co. – Manhattan’s first and only legal whiskey distillery since Prohibition – on a limited-edition glassware collection made entirely in New York City.
Designed specifically for the Manhattan cocktail, the three-piece collection brings sculptural form and everyday function into balance. Each glass is handblown in Brooklyn by Keep Brooklyn, reinforcing the project’s commitment to local making at every step. From the weight of the glass to the clarity of its silhouette, the collection looks equally stunning on display or in use.
The Manhattan Hourglass anchors the series with a copper-toned base inspired by whiskey stills, topped with a clear coupe that speaks to refinement and restraint – an elegant expression of spirit evolving into cocktail. Cherry State of Mind introduces a playful note, suspending the Manhattan’s signature garnish within the glass itself, while Manhattan Beacon offers a sculptural silhouette that nods to guidance, migration, and the layered histories behind American distilling. Together, the pieces form an ode to the ritual of mixing, serving, and savoring a drink that’s as much about place as it is about time.
By keeping the entire process within New York City, Time Distilled underscores the value of place in design. The collection not only honors the Manhattan as a drink, but as a cultural constant shaped by the city that gave it its name.
