- Urban unveiled a roofless Defender 90 fitted with an aggressive bodykit at Goodwood.
- The soft top conversion was done by Dutch firm Heritage Customs, not Urban itself.
- A widebody kit adds flared arches, new bumpers, carbon details, and aero tweaks.
Land Rover’s Defender lineup covers a lot of ground, offering models tailored to a wide range of drivers. But one configuration that’s not available is a convertible. For Defender owners looking to feel the breeze and soak up the sun, that gap is now being filled by a British tuner offering a stylish drop-top conversion for the iconic off-roader.
The tuner in question is Urban Automotive. Curiously, it’s not Urban that has chopped off the roof of this Defender 90, but rather Heritage Customs, a Dutch company that launched a convertible Land Rover a couple of years ago.

What Urban has done is overhaul the rest of the SUV, making it look much more aggressive than a normal Defender. It would look just as good on the sand dunes of Dubai as it would on the coastal roads of Marbella.
A widebody kit that includes flared fenders, a new vented hood, and new LED daytime running lights immediately makes the Land Rover stand out. There are also carbon fiber wing mirror caps, aero flics at the front, custom badging and a new set of 23-inch Urban WX-2 R black wheels shod in Yokohama Advan Sport tires.
The highlight of this build is the convertible roof, featuring a folding soft top along with a pair of roll bars positioned above the rear seats. Inside, those same rear seats are reupholstered in vibrant Hermes Orange leather. Up front, the cabin gains carbon fiber-backed Recaro seats, also finished in Hermes Orange, adding a distinctly high-end feel.
The custom leather treatment continues across the dashboard and steering wheel, helping to unify the interior with a consistent, upscale finish, even if the color combination in this particular build might not be to everyone’s taste.
Urban hasn’t revealed the full cost of the vehicle displayed at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, but the soft top conversion from Heritage Customs alone comes in at €85,000 (around $99,000), giving a strong hint at the level of investment required for this open-air Defender.
