- A 2022 Acura NSX just sold for 17 percent more than its MSRP via online auction.
- The Type S originally cost $187k but changed hands for $219k on Bring a Trailer.
- Options on the 1,700-mile car included the Lightweight Package and black wheels.
Acura’s combeback NSX was a sales flop in North America, but collectors are falling over themselves to pay top money for the most special versions. This yellow example of the hybrid supercar just sold for $32k over its original MSRP, and this was no freak occurrence.
Two things set this Acura apart from some of the other NSXs you might see for sale. The first is its low mileage. It’s covered just 1,700 miles (2,740 km) from new, which isn’t much for a car that invites regular use because it’s so easy to drive.

But the second and more important reason for its $200k+ sale price is that it’s a Type S, the more driver-focused version of the NSX introduced by Acura in 2022 to replace the base model introduced in 2016. Only 350 Type S cars were built at the Ohio plant at the end of NSX production, 300 being earmarked for the US market, and they’re now highly sought after by fans.
The Type S brought a new look to the NSX with changes to the bumpers, sills and rear end not only adding some visual bite, but also cutting lift and improving cooling. The triple-motor, 3.5-liter V6 hybrid powertrain got a boost from 573 hp (580 PS) to 600 hp (608 PS), new forged wheels stretched the front and rear track and a carbon roof lowered the center of gravity while trimming the overall weight.

To cut weight even further – by 57.8 lbs (26.2 kg) – Acura offered a Lightweight Package that netted you carbon brakes, a carbon engine cover and carbon interior trim package. That’s what the original owner of this car specified, the option tick adding $13,000 to the original $169,500 MSRP. Throwing in $1,500 for black wheels inflated the MSRP to $186,995 including destination, but 1,700 miles later its new owner paid a $32,000 premium to buy the same car on Bring a Trailer.
A look at previous sale prices on Bring a Trailer shows this is no anomaly. Another 2022 Type S with the Lightweight Package, this one showing only 704 miles (1,130 km) and costing $184,995 when new, sold for $265,000 a couple of months ago and four other Type Ss have topped $200k in the past six months.
