Ford’s EcoBoost family of engines have come a long way since they were first introduced about 15 years ago. Naturally aspirated engines were so 2000 and late. Buyers now wanted performance, fuel economy, and robustness out of their powerplants, and Ford felt it had cracked the code when it introduced the 3.5-liter EcoBoost engine into Ford and Lincoln products around this time. The results were impressive, as you could now get a Ford Flex or Lincoln MKT with over 350 horsepower, but this is Ford we’re talking about, and reliability left a little to be desired.
