Samsung has just extended the One UI 8.5 beta program to older Galaxy phone models. The Korean tech giant is now permitting the owners of the Samsung Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24 Plus, Galaxy S24 Ultra flagships to download and test the first beta version of One UI 8.5. Even the FE model is on the list. If you have one of these phones, you can finally have an early look at the updated design and new features before the official rollout of the new software later this year.
Samsung has opened the Galaxy S24’s One UI 8.5 beta program in select regions
Currently, the Android 16-based One UI 8.5 beta program is live for the Samsung Galaxy S24 series phone users in India, South Korea, and the United Kingdom. Samsung will expand the testing phase to other regions soon. The size of the update is massive, coming in at just over four gigabytes (4,109.04MB to be precise), so you will need a fast internet connection before you start the download.
It’s worth mentioning that you’ll first need to enroll in the One UI 8.5 beta program. To join, go to the Samsung Members application on your phone. Then, search for the One UI 8.5 beta banner on the main screen, tap it, and follow the instructions to enroll. After you register, navigate to your device’s settings, hit the software update section, and tap download and install.
Since this is an early beta version of the latest One UI software, we advise you to back up all your important personal data before pressing the install button, just in case something goes wrong during the new firmware upgrade.
Here’s what you can expect from the One UI 8.5 beta update
Recently, a leaked changelog for the One UI 8.5 beta revealed that Samsung is focusing on useful AI upgrades for the Galaxy S24. There’s a new Photo Assist tool that lets you edit images repeatedly without saving each step. Bixby is getting smarter with the new One UI version. It now allows you to ask questions naturally and check your past chats in a side panel.
The firmware also provides security and settings upgrades. Samsung has added a theft protection tool that locks the screen after too many failed unlock attempts. It also included clearer battery details, better weather widgets, and a safer Quick Share system.
We expect Samsung to roll out the stable, finished One UI 8.5 update at some point in May. Until then, beta testers will likely receive a handful of smaller beta updates over the next several weeks, which will help Samsung to polish the user experience.
