Samsung is not just about smartphones, home appliances, and other tech products. It also develops telecommunications networking equipment used to build cellular networks that phones connect to. In the latest development, Samsung has announced that it reached a major milestone in 6G network technology.
Samsung reaches a major milestone in 6G network
Samsung Electronics has successfully verified eXtreme multiple-input multiple-output (X-MIMO) technology in the 7GHz band. This is apparently a key candidate frequency for future 6G networks. The company collaborated with Keysight Technologies and KT Corporation (KT). The companies demonstrated a peak downlink data rate of up to 3Gbps in the 7GHz band using X-MIMO technology.
They used an ultra-high-density antenna technology that fits significantly more antenna elements in the equipment while maintaining the same physical size as systems based on older technologies.

Real-world network conditions replicated
X-MIMO technology is considered a key foundation for 6G. This uses four times as many antenna elements as 5G to boost performance. It offers a balance between capacity and coverage. It parks between 5G’s 3.5GHz mid-band spectrum and its millimeter wave bands.
The verification took place at Samsung Electronics’ Seoul R&D Campus. The data transfer rates were measured during simultaneous transmission of eight data streams from the base station to a single user device. To ensure real-world network conditions, Samsung collaborated with KT to create an outdoor wireless test environment. The test also used Samsung’s 6G base station prototype with 256 digital ports and Keysight’s 6G terminal testbed.
“Through our collaboration with KT and Keysight, we have demonstrated the potential for significant improvements in data rates for next-generation communications. We remain committed to pioneering future network technologies that will enable diverse services and enhanced user experiences in the 6G era,” said JinGuk Jeong, Executive Vice President and Head of the Advanced Communications Research Center at Samsung Research.
