The PS6 is likely still years away, but little bits and pieces of information continue to trickle out about the console, and the latest rumor suggests that the PS6 could end up coming with a whopping 30GB of total RAM. That’s almost double what you get with the PS5 Pro. If this figure is true, then the PS6 is likely to serve up some pretty beefy performance.
For comparison, the PS5 and PS5 Pro both come with 16GB of RAM. Both of these consoles, even the OG PS5, have pretty good performance when it comes to consoles. Games look good, and they run smoothly, in most cases, short of bugs that need to be patched on the game development side.
In addition to having 30GB of RAM, the rumor also states that the RAM modules will be GDDR7. This suggests that Sony will be using newer components, as the PS5 Pro uses GDDR6 RAM. That also might be a cause for concern when it comes to the price. Although this depends on when Sony actually launches the console. Right now, RAM and storage prices have become very high. That could be part of the reason Sony was rumored to have pushed the launch out to as late as 2030. It’s still possible as well that Sony may have to pay a lot for GDDR7 RAM modules, which could increase the hardware cost.
The PS6 handheld RAM is rumored to be 24GB
In addition to the rumor about the RAM in the PS6, the same rumor also suggests that the PS6 handheld will come with 24GB of RAM. While the PS6 handheld is likely to be close to the PS5 performance, it’ll have more RAM if this rumor rings true. And that’s likely a good thing since the performance is supposed to be just below PS5 levels while being able to run PS5 games. In other words, the extra RAM is going to be necessary to make this possible.
How this all plays out in practice won’t be clear until the consoles come out and people finally get their hands on them. That being said, players should benefit here from having these larger amounts of RAM.
