The latest rumor surrounding Microsoft’s next Xbox console suggests that consumers might see it arrive sometime in 2027. If this is accurate, then it would be much sooner than the launch of the PS6 based on the most recent rumor about Sony’s console, which predicts that it could arrive as late as 2030. It would give Microsoft a significant lead in terms of the next console generation if it’s able to stay on target with the launch, and provided that a 2027 arrival is even accurate.
As of right now, Microsoft has not announced or confirmed any dates for the arrival of the next Xbox. It has confirmed the hardware’s existence, though, and has even planted the seed on what consumers can expect when the console becomes available. As rumors had speculated before Microsoft confirmed it, the next Xbox will essentially be a high-powered gaming PC running Windows 11 with an Xbox UI layer on top. It’s very likely that this will look like the Xbox Full Screen Experience you find on the ROG Xbox Ally X.

While this is more of a prediction than a rumor, AMD’s CEO believes that Microsoft may be targeting a 2027 release for the upcoming Xbox hardware. AMD will be making a custom chipset for the next Xbox, just like it did for the Xbox Series X and PS5. So, if anyone outside of Microsoft would have a good idea about when the console will launch, it would probably be AMD’s CEO.
In addition to the next Xbox, AMD is also working on custom SOCs for the PS6 and the upcoming Steam Machine. The Steam Machine will be arriving much sooner than Microsoft or Sony’s hardware, although it was delayed, and is now coming in the “first half of the year” instead of “in Q1.”
Another thing to keep in mind is that while the new Xbox could come out in 2027, it’s also entirely possible that Microsoft may want to wait out the RAM crisis and avoid charging consumers more money.
