Roller coaster: that’s the term we’d use to describe sales for the Infiniti brand. Nissan’s luxury arm entered the United States in 1989, the same year Toyota opened the doors to its Lexus division. If you’ve paid any attention to the automotive industry, it’s clear which of the two has the upper hand in 2025; but it wasn’t such a wide gap. Infiniti’s fortunes changed in 2002 when it released a new model, the G35, marking the first time Americans could buy a car with the Nissan Skyline platform in America. It was a near-instant success.
