The Google TV App is starting to receive its Material 3 Expressive makeover, as a handful of design elements have been updated in the latest app update. This follows on Google’s recent moves of updating other apps like Google Wallet, Keep, and Gmail with Material 3 Expressive.
In the latest update for the Google TV App, which is version 4.39.3356.780959673.5, there are a few subtle changes. Like the larger movie/show name and ratings are now center-aligned. The Watchlist, Watched it, Like, and Dislike buttons have also shed their circular border, giving it a much cleaner interface.
In addition to this, the shortcuts in the Ratings section are now pill-shaped instead of rounded rectangles, and the image previews in the Top Stories section feature rounded corners.

Material 3 Expressive is expected to roll out next month
We expect that the Material 3 Expressive update will start to roll out next month with the launch of the Pixel 10 series. Material 3 Expressive first debuted ahead of Google I/O, but not with Android 16, surprisingly. The first beta launched with the Android 16 QPR1 beta. And typically, that would mean it would launch in September, as that is three months after Android 16’s launch. However, it would be surprising to see this launch after the Pixel 10 is in users’ hands.
As we get closer to Material 3 Expressive rolling out, we do expect to see more and more Google apps getting updated with this new design language. Hopefully, Google is more on top of it this year than they’ve been in previous design changes, where some apps weren’t updated to the redesign for years.
Material 3 Expressive is an updated version of Material Design, which is said to be more expressive. It makes the whole interface more bouncy and interactive, versus the very vanilla look that Pixel Experience has had over the past few years.
