Google Maps users have reportedly started facing a fresh new bug that is causing the app to crash when looking up transit directions. Despite trying every known fix, the issue still persists. Android Police was able to replicate the bug on one version of the Google Maps app (version number 25.30.00.78516346). Users facing the issue are posting about it on the official Google support forums.
Google Maps is only crashing for users who are searching for directions with public transit
Reddit user XenonOxide reports how the Google Maps app on Android closes and returns to the home screen almost immediately when searching for directions via public transit. Users replying to the post share similar experiences. The bug appears to span across various regions, including the US, the UK, and Germany. However, the other types of navigation, like cycling/walking/driving, and directions appear to be unaffected at this point.
The Google Maps app is showing a marginally elevated rate of complaints over the past few hours on Downdetector. While this may not be a cause for serious concern just yet, there definitely seems to be something wrong with Google Maps, at least with the said app version and across various geographic locations. For what it’s worth, the app crashing doesn’t seem to be present on a slightly older Google Maps version.

Users complain on the official Google support forum
Complaints related to the bug are now live on the official support forum. Users mention how clearing cache, data, uninstalling updates, disabling location, and other known fixes didn’t help the cause. We are hoping Google acknowledges the bug and fixes it soon, as Maps is one of the most widely used apps across the world.
It also doesn’t look like there’s any temporary workaround for the bug at the moment, except for possibly using an older version of the Google Maps app.
