Voice-based search is a pretty sweet option. It fetches results with just your voice instead of typing things manually on a keyboard. The Google app for Android includes the voice search feature along with a Shazam-like feature that identifies songs in the background. It appears that a redesign of these pages within the Google app might be in the works.
Voice search in the Google app could be getting a redesign
In the current state, tapping the microphone icon in the Google app or the home screen widget reportedly brings up a new screen that says “listening,” some recent searches, and search suggestions. Selecting the “Search for a song” button opens another page with an animation and a tiny prompt that says to play, sing, or hum a song.
The redesign, as spotted by Telegram user @shishiverm, started showing up in version 16.36.40.sa.arm64 beta of the Google app for Android. In this redesign, the previous and suggested searches are no longer present.
Currently, the redesign appears to be limited
The main voice search screen now shows the same pulsing animation similar to the voice search in Google’s AI mode. It even asks you, “What’s on your mind?” There’s a pill-shaped Search for a Song button at the bottom. This page also sees a design change with the same animation. We see a “Play Sing Hum” text, which is much bigger and bolder.
It’s understandable if you want to try this brand new design, but as with most of Google’s features, the redesign seems to be a server-side rollout. This means even with the said app version on your phone, you may still have the same old design. But since the UI upgrade is showing for select users, it should be available widely eventually. We’ll be sure to update you when that happens.
