- Oracle Lighting is planning to launch lensless LED headlights next year.
- They eschew an outer lens and feature sealed modular LED emitters.
- The lights are slated to cost around $900 and be easily replaceable.
The SEMA Show is winding down, but Oracle Lighting has used the event to introduce what they’re claiming is the “world’s first lensless LED headlight.” Scheduled to arrive in January, the lights will debut as an aftermarket accessory for the third-generation Tacoma and cost around $800 to $900.
While the lights aren’t cheap, they’re notable for eschewing an outer lens. Instead, they have “sealed modular LED emitters” that are housed in an assembly and are IP68 rated for water and dust ingress.

Ditching the outer lens provides a number of benefits as owners won’t have to worry about cracks or hazy headlights.
Oracle also said the headlights were designed with serviceability in mind as customers can replace individual components such as the high and low beams as well as the daytime running light.
This stands in contrast to many modern LED headlight assemblies, which need to be replaced as an entire unit.
Speaking of which, a small crack on the outer lens of a traditional headlight could end up costing over $1,000 to fix. This has been a common complaint, especially among off-roaders.
The lights are mounted on “reinforced, removable mounting brackets” that can reportedly be easily replaced if they’re ever damaged.
The company also said the lights have a sculpted housing, which can be painted. This means owners have a new avenue to customize the look of their vehicle.
It will be interesting to see if the lights can live up to their potential, but they’ll be limited to just a handful of models for the foreseeable future. Besides the aforementioned Tacoma, Oracle will offer lensless LED headlights for the 4Runner and Ford F-150.
Additional models are also planned and will be announced soon.
