
LED lighting technology has become a staple of modern vehicles’ design over the last decade or so, having begun fulfilling more of an aesthetic function but now being the light source of choice for pretty much every road vehicle on the market in 2025. The Audi R8 supercar was the first vehicle to ever use the technology for its high-beam headlights in 2008, which followed on from the German brand using them as daytime running lights on the 2004 edition of its A8 luxury sedan. Even before that, in 2006, Lexus starting using LEDs for low-beam headlights.
