
Picture the scene: Your driving test examiner asks you to pull up alongside a gap between two parked cars and seamlessly reverse into that space. It’s enough to produce some beads of sweat in the palms of your hand, and it’s your first introduction to parallel parking. While manufacturers have made many attempts to make this task a lot easier, Toyota had this idea in mind back in 2005 when the company introduced the “crab walking” Fine-X concept. This was a futuristic experiment that, like many concept cars before, would eventually fade into obscurity, but it was to showcase many innovative features that could have made car driving and ownership a lot simpler.
