Just after the close of World War II, automakers around the country began adopting the more aerodynamic post-war vehicle styling. This meant that cars began to look longer, lower-slung. The proliferation of V8 engines also made them more powerful. In addition, many of the small-time brands that were around prior to World War II began to fail. The situation meant the US carmaker scene was thinning out, resulting in an even more cutthroat auto market, among brands such as Ford, General Motors, and Chrysler.
