Pickup trucks are the lifeblood of the American automotive industry. The Big Three sell pickups such as the Ford F-150 in large volumes and turn a tidy profit on every one of them (with buyers ignoring how crazy expensive they’ve become). Those profits, in a very real sense, pay for everything else. Failure is not an option. And in the context of that vital competition, virtually any part of the truck can become a battleground – even the humble tailgate.
