Among the many cars on the road over the years, those with some of the richest, and most fascinating, stories have to be the United States presidential cars. They have mirrored the evolution of automotive technology, with a partiuclar emphasiss on national security, and highlighted the importance of the POTUS as a whole to American and global society. Back in the early 20th century, when cars were a novelty to the good ol’ horse-drawn carriage, President William McKinley became the first active US president to ride in a car in July 1901. That car was a Stanley Motor Carriage Company steam car, and it marked the start of an amazing run that would evolve into The Beast presidential car today.
