While it doesn’t get the most love, there’s no denying that Front-Wheel Drive (FWD) is an engineering marvel. The drivetrain layout was designed as a way to cut down on costs and improve the overall packaging of a vehicle, but it was also quickly found to be a great way to improve fuel efficiency and traction in adverse conditions. That last one helped it to achieve serious success in motorsport, ultimately creating some legendary production nameplates that enthusiasts still love today.
