Data centers don’t hire many people, but due to the cost of outfitting them with costly equipment, the property taxes collected make them a catch for the local community. Blueprint Projects received incentives from the Taylor City Council for a $1 billion data center project on a 52-acre tract of land acquired in April from the Taylor Economic Development Corp. at 1601 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. The city will provide a 10-year, 50% rebate of taxes on the tangible property inside the development.
The Austin Business Journal reports the company’s owner claims they have letters of intent with tenants for full capacity and are working on pre-leasing agreements. They expect to make an investment of $360 million by the start of 2027. They have secured power for 30 megawatts from Oncor Electric Delivery Co.
Each phase of the three-phase project is planned to be 45,000 square feet. Over the next 10 years, the project is expected to require $1 billion in capital expenditures.
