These days, a lot of things can be done online. You can register for a service online, activate a service, purchase a service, and so on. This can be done through the company’s website or app. It is rare that you’ll need to call in and speak to someone. However, T-Mobile is making calling in a requirement for non T-Mobile customers who want to activate the T-Satellite feature.
Activate T-Satellite on T-Mobile
As you might have heard, T-Mobile recently launched its T-Satellite service. For those unfamiliar, T-Satellite is a satellite texting service. It’s meant to give users an alternative way of contacting emergency services in situations where cellular coverage isn’t available. For example, if you’re out on a hike and you’re lost with no cell reception. That’s where T-Satellite comes in handy.
The best part is that T-Mobile isn’t making the feature exclusive to its network. Customers on other carriers can also sign up if they want satellite coverage. However, it turns out that non T-Mobile customers who want to activate their T-Satellite service will have to call in. Alternatively, they can also head on over to a T-Mobile store.
Prior to this, Verizon and AT&T customers could sign up via T-Mobile’s website during the beta. However, the carrier has made changes following the public release of its new service. According to T-Mobile, “Since T-Satellite is now commercially available, we wanted to ensure there wasn’t any confusion around the setup or activation process which is why we are directing non T-Mobile customers to call or visit a retail store.” If you’d rather not go to a store, you can dial 1-800-937-8997 to sign up for it.
How much does it cost?
Hopefully, you’ll never find yourself in a situation where you’ll have to send a satellite SOS text message as an emergency. However, if you do, T-Satellite is priced at $10 a month for a limited time. This is the same for both T-Mobile and other carrier customers. However, the carrier will increase the price to $15 a month after that.
Do that note that if you are on T-Mobile’s more expensive Experience Beyond or Go5G Next plans, T-Satellite is included as a free perk.
