T-Mobile had quite a year in 2025, but that didn’t stop customers from becoming upset with the carrier over a few changes throughout the year, and now T-Mobile is trying to win back their loyalty with a free phone offer. It’s not a completely free phone offer, mind you, and there are some caveats, but it’s a gesture that T-Mobile is making to try to assure customers that it values their subscription.
T-Mobile hatched this plan because it lost a lot of customer loyalty last year due to things like price hikes. It raised prices on certain plans, and this didn’t sit well with customers. It also reportedly forced customers off of older plans, while also excluding taxes and fees from its phone plan pricing. This led to an increase in churn for the carrier that ended up at 1.02%, up from 0.89% in the previous quarter.
The free phone offer from T-Mobile is for one phone only, and it requires a trade-in
As mentioned, there are a few caveats for T-Mobile’s phone offer. For starters, the free phone is only on one model. T-Mobile is giving away an iPhone 17. Pricing on that phone starts at $830, so that’s not necessarily a bad deal. You do, however, also have to trade in an old phone.
Customers also need to sign up for an Experience Beyond plan. Customers aren’t the only ones not happy with T-Mobile. Its sales reps likely aren’t too happy either, after the carrier changed expectations on sales targets and reportedly threatened reps’ jobs.
With regard to this new offer, the phone obviously isn’t truly free. They never are. That’s how these deals work when it comes to carriers. The marketing says free, but the phones actually come with a cost. Sometimes it’s upfront, other times it’s over your monthly bill, where you get credits for that payment. As long as you trade in an old device. It’s not a bad offer, but it’s not really free either.
