While the future appears to be almost entirely electricity-powered, a number of automakers are still trying to keep internal-combustion engines alive. One of the more promising avenues for combustion survival is synthetic fuel. By capturing carbon and combining it with different amounts of hydrogen, companies can create synthetic fuels similar to existing fossil fuels. Lamborghini and other brands at Volkswagen Group are investing in the technology, and it’s clear those brands, particularly Lamborghini, see it as the way to keep internal-combustion engines around through the future.
