Microsoft’s SwiftKey keyboard app will soon remove Google and Apple account login support. The popular keyboard app is ditching all non-Microsoft logins, meaning users need to have a Microsoft account. This change is effective starting from May 31st. The tech giant will shift the user data to the OneDrive cloud storage.
Microsoft is removing Google account login support on SwiftKey
The SwiftKey app currently allows users to log in with a Microsoft account, a Google account, or an Apple account. This is changing from May 31st. Windows Central reports that Microsoft has been notifying SwiftKey users that the platform will transition to a Microsoft account-based model. The company says the change is to make “SwiftKey better.”
With this transition, all your typing data will be securely stored in OneDrive storage linked with the Microsoft account that you use to log in. The email alerting users about this change reportedly also highlights that they’ll benefit from enhanced privacy protections and easier access to their data across devices. It also says users get an opportunity to earn 1000 Microsoft reward points that they can spend on top online shops, Xbox discounts, or donate to charity.
Starting from May 31st, 2026
The Windows Central report adds that Microsoft will permanently delete all SwiftKey account data on May 31st, 2026. To retrieve your account data, you have to visit the SwiftKey data website before the cutoff. If you already use a Microsoft account to sign in to SwiftKey or switch to one before the May deadline, you don’t have to do anything. Microsoft account users will have their data backed up on OneDrive automatically.
That said, you probably won’t have to log in with a Microsoft account to use SwiftKey. This is considering one can currently use the keyboard without logging in at all. However, by doing so, your personalized data, like word suggestions and typing habits, won’t carry over to a new device. This leaves you with retraining the keyboard on every new device you set up. SwiftKey is available on both Android and iOS.
