Tailwind Group has acquired its third student housing property this year, the latest at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville. The Connection at Huntsville is a 288-unit, 792-bed student project.
The company went out of its comfort area with this transaction. Tailwind’s Brandon Smith said, “While Sam Houston State is not the typical Power 4 market that we acquire assets in, we believe strongly in the fundamentals and upside this specific opportunity presented.” Tailwind plans to implement a comprehensive capital improvement plan and rebrand the property as Quarters Huntsville.
Completed in 2008, the community encompasses 13 three-story buildings spread across almost 27 acres. The unit mix consists of one-four-bedroom floorplans ranging between 674 and 1,572 square feet. The fully furnished units also have private balconies or patios.
Common-area amenities include a fitness center, clubhouse, business center and a spa, as well as a dog park, two volleyball courts and picnic areas.
Berkadia’s Brandon Buell and his team brokered the deal.
