Rolls-Royce is far from the only car company to have used rear-hinged coach doors on its vehicles, but it’s about the only company using them nowadays. That’s probably because they’re a major headache to engineer and produce, particularly when they have to meet conventional front doors. That also means they’re expensive, which is something Rolls-Royce can account for with the huge price tags on Phantoms and more. Despite the challenges and costs, it seems that Stellantis may take a shot at the door design based on a recently released patent. Not only that, but it suggests Stellantis is looking to one-up the British marque’s doors.
