Spotify is rolling out a new update that introduces offline lyrics and adds new features that make song lyrics easier to see and use. In an official statement, the company announced the update, which brings offline lyrics access, wider language translations, and a new position for lyrics inside the app. The features are designed to boost the audio listening experience.
Spotify finally gets an offline lyrics feature in the latest update
The biggest addition in the latest Spotify app update is the ability to view full lyrics without an internet connection. However, the feature will only be available to Premium subscribers. There’s no denying that Spotify loves gatekeeping the features. Anyway, for the users who are able to access the feature, it is a practical benefit that comes in useful, especially when the user is travelling or enjoying an offline listening session.
Back in 2024, Spotify tried limiting lyrics for free users, which led to strong complaints and later changes. But now, instead of removing access, Spotify is adding value to its premium subscription plan. It’s a feature that does not take anything away from free users but gives paid members something extra.
The update also adds global translation and a clearer lyrics design
Apart from the new offline lyrics feature, the tech giant is also expanding its lyrics translation feature to users around the world. The feature was first announced in 2022 but was limited to selected regions. Now, it will be available in most major markets. When a translation exists, users can tap an icon on the lyrics card to see translated text appear below the original lyrics. The language is chosen automatically based on the device settings.
Another noticeable change in the update is the lyrics design. They are now placed directly under the album cover or the short looping video on the Now Playing screen. Spotify adds in its statement that the user testing showed this layout made people interact more with lyrics.
