Sony’s latest reported earnings detail that Ghost of Yotei launch sales were quite good, while also detailing that the PS5’s unit sales are slipping a bit compared to the same time last year. Sony has enjoyed quite a bit of success with its PS5 console so far, so while the hardware sales have dipped a bit compared to the same time last year, it’s also important to remember that the PS5 is now several years old.
According to the latest report, Sony has now surpassed a total of 92.2 million PS5 units shipped in its fiscal Q3, which is still quite good. This is up from 84.2 million units in the previous quarter, but it’s also a 15.8% decline in sales from the previous fiscal Q3. This shows that Sony’s PS5 sales are slowing down, and that could be because a significant number of people who have wanted a PS5 now have one.
Ghost of Yotei exceeded Ghost of Tsushima sales when launch alligned
When it comes to software sales, Sony’s biggest game in the fiscal 2025 is Ghost of Yotei, and it’s done very well in the short time it’s been available. Ghost of Yotei officially launched on October 2, 2025, which makes the game just over four months old. Sony reports that as of now, Ghost of Yotei has exceeded the sales of Ghost of Tsushima when launch alligned.
Sony does not provide a specific figure for the Ghost of Yotei sales, however. So it’s unclear exactly how many software units it has actually shipped for the game. It’s also worth noting that the PS5 is very close to the PS4’s units shipped by this time in the PS4’s life cycle, which was about 94.4 million units by this time. Considering the initial stock challenges that Sony faced when the PS5 launched, and that stock issues continued for close to a year or more, this is a major accomplishment for the PS5.
