The Android 16 update for the Sony Xperia 1 VI weighs around 850MB, as per user reports on Reddit. It reportedly brings the October security patch as well. This is the second major update to the Xperia 1 VI after getting Android 15 in November 2024. The phone will get one more major update, as per Sony’s promised software update schedule.
The complete changelog is currently not available, but you can expect system-wide stability improvements and optimizations, minimal UI changes, and some new Android 16-based features.

The Reddit post also notes the Android 16 update to the Xperia 1 VI brings the camera app version to 1.0.2.A.0.6. However, what changes the new version brings to the UI and performance are not clear at the moment. The comments to the post say that the fingerprint notification in apps now looks different, and the 5G logo is said to have been redesigned.
After the Android 16 update, the Settings menu is now in a different order, with the System and About Phones present in the middle of the list, instead of at the bottom. There are apparently some minor animation changes when switching between apps or closing them.
