The Chevrolet Bel Air remains one of the most recognizable names in American car culture. While the model evolved significantly across the decades, you can still spot great examples cruising the streets or turning heads at weekend shows. However, you’d be hard-pressed to find one that’s quite as clean or as impressive as this one.
What you’re looking at is a 1967 Bel Air Wagon that’s been thoroughly reworked, not just for more muscle under the hood, but to make sure it draws a crowd wherever it shows up.

It is being offered up for auction through Mecum as part of the Day Family Classic Car Collection sale in January. There’s no estimate yet on what it might fetch, but with this level of work, it’s safe to say it won’t be going for pocket change.
What makes it special? First off, take a peek under the hood. It has been equipped with a new 502 cubic-inch (8.2.-liter) V8 crate engine mated to an upgraded automatic transmission.

There’s no official figure on how much power this engine is putting out, but crate motors like this one can easily produce over 600 hp without forced induction. That’s edging into Audi RS6 Avant territory, except this time, it’s packed into a mid-1960s wagon the size of a small land yacht, which is equal parts impressive and terrifying.
The Chevy’s exterior has also been overhauled. It is now bathed in a custom combination of Orange and Gold Pearl. The original door handles have also been removed and both the front and rear bumpers have a fresh new chrome finish.
The chrome continues with the wheels, which sit over upgraded SSBC brakes featuring four-piston calipers. The ride height has been dropped, giving the Bel Air a more aggressive stance than anything that left the factory.

Then there’s the cabin. It’s finished in a combination of orange and cream-colored vinyl and has been fitted with new lap harnesses. Audio has been brought up to date too, with a custom head unit and upgraded speakers.

A look at the odometer reveals the car has been driven just under 8,000 miles (12,800 km), although it’s unclear if this is the original mileage or, as is most likely, is reflective of how many miles it’s been driven since the engine swap.
Whether you’re into vintage wagons or just like your horsepower with a tailgate, this Bel Air doesn’t mess around. It’s loud, low, and unapologetically orange. Check out the full listing over here.
