According to everything we know about the iPhone 17 series right now, Apple is keeping the base model roughly the same as its predecessors. By that, we assume that it will maintain the same display size and camera setup, amongst other things. However, a new rumor on Weibo by Digital Chat Station suggests the base iPhone 17 could get a larger display.
Base iPhone 17 to get larger display
The base iPhone 16 model, which is also the cheapest, has a 6.1-inch display. However, if the rumors are true, Apple could give the base iPhone 17 a larger 6.3-inch display. This is still smaller than the Plus model, but it will be bigger compared to previous base iPhone generations.
This means that if you wanted a larger display for the base model, you could be in luck. However, we imagine there could be some complaints too. In addition to the base iPhone being more affordable, the fact that it is smaller is one of its selling points. Not everyone needs a phone with a massive display.
Unless your hands are huge, using the Plus or Pro Max models one-handed can feel like you’re giving your fingers a nice good stretch. Plus, a larger display also means a larger phone which is heavier. Hopefully, Apple isn’t planning to increase the price. If they’re keeping it the same, it could be great value for those who prefer a larger screen.
Other iPhones
As for rest of the iPhone 17 series, as you might have heard, we won’t be getting a Plus model this year. The rumors claim Apple will replace that with an iPhone 17 Air model. Earlier this year, it was also rumored that the iPhone 17 Air will feature a 6.6-inch display. The iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max models will sport 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch displays respectively.
The Pro and Pro Max models will see a redesign of the camera module. It now stretches across the back of the phone, similar to Google’s Pixel phones. Both Pro models are also rumored to take advantage of the newer A19 chipset. Last we heard, the A19 benchmark results are formidable, hinting at performance levels similar to Apple’s M4 chipset.
