Houston Methodist has bought the former Coca-Cola bottling plant in the West University Place neighborhood of Houston. Public information indicated that the 14-acre site at 2800 Bissonnet St. was owned by Lovett Commercial President and founder Frank Liu and Avi Ron, founder of Urban Meridian Group Inc. Last week, the Houston Business Journal reported that CEO Marc Boom emailed employees announcing the property acquisition, which he said will help the system “better meet the growing need for health care in this area.”
The building has been vacant since Coca-Cola announced that it would leave the site in 2020. The new $250 million, one million square foot bottling facility is at Pinto Business Park in north Houston.
The hospital group says building plans are still being developed.
