A truly concerning rumor regarding the OnePlus 16 has just popped up online. OnePlus Club reports that the OnePlus 16 may not get a global variant at all, it could be exclusive to China.

Just to be clear, the source doesn’t seem to be too sure of that. OnePlus Club picked up that rumor somewhere, but cannot confirm it. It will be earth-shattering if true, but I’m kind of skeptical.
It’s true that OnePlus’ sales haven’t exactly been great in general. The company is not holding a truly significant part of the market or anything like that. In fact, its sales are usually calculated under OPPO’s.
Still, OnePlus managed to become a recognized brand in various parts of the world. Before, it was a niche brand, but these days, quite a few non-techie people have heard of it. Not releasing its flagship offering to global markets would be a major move by the company.
The OnePlus Nord 6 phones are on the way
Two OnePlus Nord 6 smartphones are expected to arrive to global markets this year. Those are the only two products from the company that are more or less confirmed to arrive thanks to certifications.
OnePlus, as many of you know, decided not to release the OnePlus Open 2. In fact, the company has no foldable smartphone plans for global markets at all, OPPO does, however.
Some users were hoping that the OnePlus 15T/15s would make its way to markets outside of China and India, as the company’s compact flagship. Well, that won’t be the case, it seems. In fact, it doesn’t seem like that phone will make its way to India either, it could remain exclusive to China.
The OnePlus 16 is expected to arrive in Q4 2026
If there’s any truth to this rumor, and the OnePlus 16 remains exclusive to China, that would basically mean the end of OnePlus’ operations in global markets. We doubt that the company would continue making budget phones only for markets outside of China.
Either way, the OnePlus 16 is expected to arrive in Q4 this year, so we’ll see what the company is planning.
