Glory in his holy name;
let the hearts of those who seek the LORD rejoice!
Seek the LORD and his strength;
seek his presence continually!
Remember the wondrous works that he has done,
his miracles and the judgments he uttered,
This is a portion of the song David had sung when the ark was brought into Jerusalem (1 Chr. 16:8-36). It was a joyful occasion, and this song reflects that. But this song is not just one to be sung and remembered when things are good. It has something to say to us regardless of the circumstances we find ourselves in.
“Seek the Lord and his strength; seek his presence continually!” This is something I so need to hear and take to heart. I seek the Lord’s presence every morning as I pray. But as the day rolls along, I find myself occupied with the day’s activities. And all too often, I do not recognize the presence of the Lord in what I am doing.
But what does it mean to seek the Lord’s presence? This is not like a game of hide and seek. God is not hiding from me and making me look for him. He is always near. His Spirit lives within me.
Seeking his presence continually is seeking to make every moment an encounter with him. As I read the Scripture and pray. As I work and play. And as I interact with friends, family, other believers, and those who need the Lord. Seek to recognize and respond to his presence in all that you do.
What difference would it make if I sought the presence of the Lord continually in everything I did and wherever I went? The answer is found in the previous verse: “Let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice.” How much joy would be mine if I sought and experienced the Lord’s presence throughout the day?
