San Antonio City Council voted to approve a zoning change allowing Houston-based real estate firm Woodbranch Management Inc. to transform one of the two office properties at 8401 Datapoint Drive into an apartment building. The move enables the developer to build at 60 units per acre at Highpoint One, while Highpoint Two is slated to remain an office property for the foreseeable future.
The San Antonio Business Journal reports that Woodbranch took ownership of the property in 2023 after the previous owner filed for bankruptcy. After numerous sales attempts run by Capital One, which was owed $53 million in the case, Woodbranch wound up with the property as the ground lease owner.
The vote also allows the developer to build a structure no taller than six stories behind Highpoint One and limits the height of anything built within 150 feet of the eastern property line to avoid encroaching on the neighboring condo community.
