2026 will be an interesting year. This is because 2026 is when we’ll start seeing the first 2nm chipsets hit the market, and Samsung could actually beat everyone to the punch. Not only that, but the company could do something the Trump administration has been pushing for: US-based manufacturing. According to recent reports, Samsung is getting close to starting the manufacturing of 2nm chips in the US.
Samsung to kick off 2nm semiconductor manufacturing in the US
According to a report out of Korea, Samsung is close to kicking off 2nm chip manufacturing in the US. The company has invested billions of dollars building a state-of-the-art chipmaking facility based in Taylor, Texas. In fact, it seems that Samsung is getting a helping hand from none other than ASML.
For those unfamiliar, ASML is a company based in the Netherlands that is also responsible for creating the EUV lithography machines necessary to build advanced semiconductors. If Samsung can pull this off, it would mean that the company beats TSMC to the punch. TSMC is expected to produce 2nm chipsets for many companies next year.
We’re talking about Apple, Qualcomm, and MediaTek. But for now, it looks like Samsung could be the first. We imagine that it would also put Samsung in the good graces of the Trump administration. The US government has been pushing for more companies to build products stateside or face high tariffs.
Samsung producing what could potentially be the world’s first 2nm chipset would definitely be a feather in the government’s hat.
Samsung Exynos 2600
That being said, Samsung’s production facility won’t be producing for other companies, at least for now. Instead, the company is expected to produce the Exynos 2600 on its 2nm GAA process. The chipset is rumored to power the upcoming Galaxy S26 series, or at least part of it.
We know that Samsung’s Exynos chipsets have gotten a bad rep over the years. However, recent benchmarks have shown that it is breaking some records, but whether or not it will be able to hold its own against the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 remains to be seen.
