Samsung owners using the Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip smartphones may finally see cheaper screen repairs, thanks to a new repair method. The new method is growing strongly in South Korea and may be expanded to the global markets soon. It allows the manufacturer to fix only the broken component of the screen instead of replacing it as a whole. This not only lowers the costs but also reduces waste.
Samsung’s new repair method brings cheaper screen repairs for Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip users
The new repair method was originally launched by Samsung back in 2024. The method only applies to foldable phones with flexible screens. Under the new repair rules, only the broken or damaged part of the screen is replaced, and not the whole screen. It replaces the traditional method of removing the whole screen and using a completely new panel instead.
The technicians are trained specifically to replace the damaged internal parts. It cuts the repair bill by as much as 37% and also supports recycling by saving usable components. In a recent move, the company has expanded the repair method to two more locations in South Korea. 160 service centres, out of a total of 169, now officially support the advanced repair method in the country. It is being adopted at a rapid pace, and the customers have already saved about KRW 8 billion, or roughly $5.4 million.
Don’t get too happy, there’s a catch
While the repair method is too good to be true, it has a major catch. The only downside of the new method is time. It takes about twice as long and requires special tools and skilled engineers. However, it saves a very big problem, which is the repair costs. In markets like the United States, repairing a Galaxy Z Fold or Flip screen is still very expensive. If the inner display breaks due to a drop, repair shops usually replace the full screen module. For reference, the out-of-warranty charges can go anywhere from $400 and $600.
Last but not least, the company has not yet shared any words about the global release of the repair method. We hope the company expands the method to the overseas market so that more consumers can enjoy it’s benefit.
