The US versions of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy S22+ have been spotted running Android 16-based One UI 8.0. Both of those models were spotted on Geekbench with Android 16.
Android 16 with One UI 8.0 is in testing for the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 & Galaxy S22+
Samsung is obviously making progress with Android 16 integration. As a reminder, the Galaxy S25 was spotted with Android 16 back in March, and then it started getting an Android 16-based beta build of One UI 8. We’re already on Beta 2 version, actually. A number of other devices were spotted with Android 16, too.
With that being said, Samsung is obviously working on older devices too. For the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5, Android 16 will be the third major OS upgrade. For the Samsung Galaxy S22 series, on the other hand, it will be the last one.
Samsung’s One UI 7.0 update, the one based on Android 15, was the big update. It started rolling out earlier this year, and it brought forth a ton of changes. Samsung even changed up its design language a bit.
One UI 8.0 will not bring massive changes to Samsung phones
Android 16 with One UI 8.0, on the other hand, will not be a major update. That was to be expected following One UI 7.0, though. It does have some improvements, but new features are scarce.
Many of you are probably wondering when will One UI 8.0 start rolling out. Well, we’re expecting the rollout to kick off around August or September. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Flip 7 are expected to launch in July, with One UI 8.0. Other devices will likely start getting the update not long after that.
If we had to guess, we’d say that the Samsung Galaxy S25 series, Galaxy Z Fold 6, and Galaxy Z Flip 6 will be first in line. The Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy S22 series users will have to be patient.
