Samsung phones will soon detect AI voice phishing attacks, courtesy of the new ‘Voice Phishing Suspected Call Alert’. This will directly address the growing threat of voice phishing attacks. This is a feature that none of the competing phone brands currently offer, except for Google, which offers Call Screening, but it’s not exactly similar. It answers the call on your behalf and understands what it’s about. The Samsung feature is exclusive to One UI 8.
Samsung phones can now stop AI voice phishing scams
Samsung offers similar functionality with its Bixby Text Call and Smart Call features. This new feature only makes things better in detecting voice phishing attacks. The company says that when attending a call with someone whose contact is not saved on your Galaxy phone, the ongoing call UI will show a “Detecting” pop-up.
This is an indication that the Voice Phishing Suspected Call Alert is in operation. If it suspects voice phishing, users will then receive a notification along with a sound and vibration. Samsung notes that all detection will take place on-device.
Reportedly, the feature will only work when you are making an outgoing call to an unsaved number, and not when you get a call from an unsaved number. There’s a chance that Samsung may address this limitation in the future.
The feature is currently limited to Korea
The feature detects and learns by tapping into data from Korea’s National Police Agency and the National Institute of Scientific Investigation. Unfortunately, the feature is only available to users in Korea at the moment and is not available globally. There are chances it could eventually roll out to more regions.
Additionally, the voice phishing feature is exclusive to Galaxy devices running stable One UI 8, meaning only the new Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7 foldables purchased in South Korea.
