Samsung, like most phone makers, preinstalls various apps on their phones. This is so that when users turn on their phone for the first time, they can get up and running. One of the apps Samsung bundles is the Samsung Internet browser, but it appears with the Galaxy S26 series, it has been renamed.
Samsung Internet browser has a new name
As spotted by SamMobile, it looks like Samsung has given its default browser a new name. Before this, and for the longest time ever, Samsung referred to its browser as “Samsung Internet.” Not the most clever name, but it worked. Now, it seems that Samsung has simply opted to call it the Samsung Browser.
It’s a much cleaner name, but we imagine it could have been changed for practical reasons. For starters, most of us probably already recognize that the icon refers to the internet and the web. Also, if you’ve used Samsung phones for a long time, you already know that Samsung Internet is the browser app.
But maybe Samsung wants to be more explicit about it, and calling it Samsung Browser is more obvious.
Have you noticed the change yet?
According to SamMobile, this change comes with version 29.0.4.45 of the app. Unfortunately, it looks like it’s only available on the new Galaxy S26 series. The publication notes that on the Galaxy S23 Ultra, the app is still called Samsung Internet. However, we imagine that this is a change the company will eventually roll out to older devices.
Plus, there’s a very good chance Samsung will apply it to its other products too, for the sake of uniformity. Other than the name change, there are no other visible changes to the app. It does feature a more compact bottom bar in the Tabs screen along with a thinner menu. However, that is part of the One UI 8.5 beta. But other than that, the app still looks and functions the same.
There’s no timeline on when we can expect this change to roll out to other Samsung devices, so we’ll have to wait and see.
